I have work to do

I’m going to jump right in and admit I need to examine my old, learned, and hidden biases.

It is my responsibility to check myself for my stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination.

I need to listen when I am called out for them.

I need to learn more than what I was taught in school.

I have work to do.

I’m getting started:

Me too! I HEARD them say we need to listen and I’ve went for seven books for a start. Very sobering. One of them is “so you want to talk about race.” I feel it is my new mission. The ONLY thing I have set out to accomplish during the shut down. It was like I was waiting for something significant and this is HUGE. Glad you understand.

I picked up “So You Want to Talk About Race” a few months ago from my local library, this evening I ordered a copy for my home library because I want/need to read it again, and talk to my children about it as well. Several of the books I’d like to read are on back order right now (I prefer physical books to ebooks) so I’ve ordered two and will read them and then wait and think and then order more as they become available and as I read through the ones I have. I’m trying to pace myself and be realistic about how much I’ll actually read, and be mindful of my book-buying budget.
