Rewiring your Brain, Pt 1 (week 6)

I am participating in a Get Wise* pilot program, to keep myself somewhat accountable, I will sometimes be sharing journal prompts and my responses.

What did “infinite supply” mean to you in CS? What were the consequences of this term in your life?

The focus in our house was not so much on “infinite supply” as it was “God will provide” and usually in a financial sense.

How am I going to manage to pay for college? God will provide! Actually, hours of financial aid paperwork, essays, arm twisting, maintaining a good GPA, working, and “letters of gratitude” for generous contributions to my college costs provided.

How are my parents going to manage to fly across the country for their CS Association? God will provide! Friends with extra frequent flier miles would contribute, and they’d split hotel costs with another couple. Is the person with a surplus of transferable airline miles really God’s way of working things out? In Christian Science, I suppose it could be.

The consequences? Needs were stated, (subtle) pressure was applied, funds showed up, airline miles materialized. Sometimes relationships were strained. It wasn’t God showing up, it was friends, family, Christian Science societies/groups, and in some cases, government assistance programs.

God Will Provide walked right up to the manifesting/Law of Attraction/Power of Positive Thinking line and then kept right on walking, heedless of the damage it left behind. The strained relationships continue, and those who remain in CS do not comprehend why.

How are you doing caring for your body – health, nutrition, sleep, relationships, etc? Are you honoring your bandwidth, or are you over or under utilizing yourself?

There is room for improvement across the board on every level. On any given day I am both over and under utilizing myself depending on the task.

How are you doing with acknowledging, prioritizing, and enjoying times of rest? What might be a new rhythm of rest you might consider adding to your life to further your self-care, nourishment, and flourishing.

What is this “rest” concept? Suffice it to say, there is room for improvement across the board on every level for this as well.
