I am participating in a Get Wise* pilot program, to keep myself somewhat accountable, I will sometimes be sharing some of the journal prompts and my responses.
Semester 2 focuses on exploring how our intrapersonal and interpersonal wounds from Christian Science affect our sense of self. Understanding how we are personally wired (personality), our attachment styles, and how to develop healthy boundaries is essential for creating interdependent relationships where we feel connected and valued.
I’m working on recognizing my limitations (I am not always good at this), so there is no post this week, but for those of you following along at home, I have shared the questions to consider and ponder, as well as my previous post about “Know the Truth.”
Questions to Consider: What is attachment*, and why does it matter? Which attachment type do you resonate with the most? Did you experience any factors that often lead to an attachment disorder? What would a healthy attachment style look like? How would your life be different if you were more securely attached?
*This refers to Attachment Theory.
Questions to Ponder: How did “Know the Truth” offer power? Control? Pain-free gain? What was the cost of “knowing the truth” in your life? In your family? Currently? Can you think of other ways Christian Science exhibited a “Demand for Purity”and “Confession?” Describe your experience of “Demand for Purity” and”Confession” in Christian Science.*
*Demand for Purity and Confession, refer to two of Robert J. Lifton’s “8 Criteria of Thought Reform.” For more about that and how CS fits into this, check out Linda Kramer’s book Perfect Peril, and the Perfect Peril Study Guide, and see my “CS is a Cult” post.
“Know the Truth” previous post.
