I am participating in a Get Wise* pilot program, to keep myself somewhat accountable, I will sometimes be sharing some of the journal prompts and my responses.
Semester 2 focuses on exploring how our intrapersonal and interpersonal wounds from Christian Science affect our sense of self. Understanding how we are personally wired (personality), our attachment styles, and how to develop healthy boundaries is essential for creating interdependent relationships where we feel connected and valued.
A combination of poor time management and events outside my control, has resulted in me sharing this section’s questions and none of my thoughts on the subject.
I do have quite a few thoughts about “demonstration,” so if you’re curious, “demonstration” has showed up in quite a few of my previous posts, including several relating back to previous Get Wise sessions.
Questions to Ponder
- Why do we need boundaries, and how do they help us connect with other people?
- Which of the six areas for boundaries do you need to focus most on in your recovery? (Spiritual, Sexual, Mental, Material, Physical, Emotional). Consider why this seems the most important to you now.
- Which of the three unhealthy boundaries most characterize your life? Rigid, Enmeshed, Non-Existent. Can you imagine a situation where you exhibited any of the 21 symptoms?
- Describe the experience and consider which boundary was breached and what unhealthy boundary was at play.
Questions to Consider
- How did the concept of “Demonstration” offer power? Control? Pain-free gain?
- What was the cost of “Demonstration” in your life? In your family? Currently?
- Can you think of other ways Christian Science exhibited “Doctrine over person”and “Dispensing of existence?”
- Describe your experience of “Doctrine over person” and “Dispensing of existence.
Get Wise is organized by the Fellowship of Former Christian Scientists, which is, a Christian Ministry. They connect people with a background in Christian Science and those who walk alongside them with Christ-centered resources, care and community. The content for the Get Wise support groups is safe for both Christian and secular participants. If you’d like to learn more, you can reach them directly at https://ffcsministry.org/
Want to participate? Sign up for the FFCS Conference: An Invitation to Hope on June 27-29 in St. Louis, MO. You can participate in-person or virtually.
The word “demonstration” was not used much until the 50th. edition of “Science & Health.” The word often used was “experiment.” It’s a much better word. I wish Mrs. Eddy left experiment in her book.
That’s a fun fact. I’ll have to find an earlier edition of S&H. I do like the analogy of Christian Science as a failed experiment.
