A few years ago, I attended a talk at an atheist church in Chicago. It was a mind blower experience. These church members didn’t want to have a belief in God. They did like the trappings of a church though. The church had stain Glass windows with artwork. There was a Sunday service with a collection and singing music. They had a Sunday School for their kids called the Golden Rule Sunday School.
People want fellowship and community, I think it is cool they managed it without the omni-everything God-thing overseeing it all. Getting together and singing songs goes back way farther than the idea of “church” and the Golden Rule isn’t an excluisively God-given thing. 🙂
