I know I said I was going on hiatus this summer, but this book was too good not to share before I get back into a regular posting routine again! This post contains some affiliate links. Thank you for your support of kindism.org I was first introduced to Each Mind a Kingdom: American Women, Sexual Purity, and … Continue reading Each Mind a Kingdom

what their itching ears want to hear – new wine-old bottles, Mary Baker Eddy & Luke 5:36-39
Back in May, when I wrote about Ms. Eddy and alcohol, I came across a parable that was largely overlooked by my Sunday School teachers, it comes from Luke 5:36-39 and it talks about wine. "And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if … Continue reading what their itching ears want to hear – new wine-old bottles, Mary Baker Eddy & Luke 5:36-39

Praying away the Cavities
I understand dental work can be a difficult issue for some people, which is why the majority of this post is behind the page break. Adventures in Christian Science Dental Work I recently met with an oral surgeon to discuss taking out my remaining wisdom tooth, part of the consult involved a questionnaire about my … Continue reading Praying away the Cavities
Portraits of Our Beloved Leader
Propaganda & the image of Mary Baker Eddy I was required to take an art history class for my major in college, it didn't really pertain to my major, but it fell into some outdated requirements so I spent 50 minutes every morning for ten weeks in a dimly-lit, too-warm room, being lectured at (basically … Continue reading Portraits of Our Beloved Leader
Wanna be a Sheep
The other day the Awkward Moments Children's Bible Facebook page shared a collection of horrifying "Christian Music" videos gathered from YouTube. I followed some of the links to their logical conclusions, and came across "I Just Want To (Be A Sheep)" The sheep theme reminded me of the guest post by the (obviously a pseudonym) … Continue reading Wanna be a Sheep
look at all my trials & tribulations, sinking in a gentle pool of wine
(1) It surprises some of my fellow former-Christian Scientists that while I have left the Mother Church, and no longer follow (or believe) in the teachings of Ms. Eddy, I continue to refrain from imbibing alcohol. I don't drink wine, beer, or cocktails. I don't enjoy vodka, tequila, or spirits. I've had a few sips … Continue reading look at all my trials & tribulations, sinking in a gentle pool of wine
the Unattainable perfect and clear comprehension of the living Spirit
For my Christian Science readers, I'm going to remind you of a harsh fact: Christian Scientsts die, just like everybody else. No where does Ms. Eddy claim that Christian Science will cause the MATERIAL BODY to live forever, it is Spiritual Man that is immortal. Expressing shock and grief at someone's passing is natural. What is … Continue reading the Unattainable perfect and clear comprehension of the living Spirit
Church of Christ, Scientist (aka Christian Science)
I love when non-CS go to a CS service and share their views, it is always refreshing to get a new perspective and to hear what stands out as “odd” to them.
First Church of Christ, Scientist
Sunday #14 – Church of Christ, Scientist, 501 N. Alamo, San Antonio, TX
After last week’s “toe dip” into Scientology, I thought I’d check out one of the other religions often mistaken for Scientology – Christian Science. The church is one of several on the decline in America’s religious landscape. However, you might be surprised to learn that some pretty well known people were raised in the Christian Science faith: Doris Day, Robin Williams, Marilyn Monroe, Henry Fonda, Andy Rooney, Bette Davis, Gene Autrey, Carol Channing, Ginger Rogers, Val Kilmer, Joan Crawford, Elizabeth Taylor, Marlon Brando, and on and on.
Though the church doesn’t publish its membership numbers, I’ve read estimates of membership in the 100,00 to 500,000-range worldwide. However, many feel the number is closer to the lower level. Why is this? I can only guess its due to its unwillingness of the…
